Albert
A blank canvas doesn't ask who you were. It asks who you're becoming.

It inspired me to look at colors differently and how I was using them in my own work—how color could bring out emotion and a whole other type of energy than what I was seeing before.”
Albert spoke about the impact of experiencing Henri Matisse’s work in person, particularly the way he used color.
There’s a bit of irony in telling that story entirely in black and white.
But that was intentional.
I wanted to leave some of Albert’s world undiscovered. His relationship with color is something I could show you, but I’d rather leave something for you to seek out for yourself.
Much like seeing Matisse’s work in person changed the way Albert understood it, I hope these photographs encourage you to go experience Albert’s work beyond these pages, to see the color, scale, texture, and energy for yourself.
Some things are better left to be discovered in person.
