Memory, Place, and the Moments That Shape Us
Photography became a way for me to pay attention.
What began as a means of documenting the world gradually became a way of understanding it. Through photographs, I explore memory, place, and the fleeting moments that often go unnoticed until they become important.
Born in New York and now based in San Antonio, my work is shaped by movement, family, travel, service, and the passage of time. Whether walking city streets, revisiting old archives, or building long-term projects, I am interested in the relationship between presence and memory, how photographs help us hold onto moments that would otherwise disappear.
This website is an ongoing archive of that search.
The Person Behind the Archive
Born and raised in New York City, John Hendrick is a photographer based in San Antonio, Texas.
Before pursuing photography full-time, he served 23 years in the United States Navy as a Hospital Corpsman, living and working across multiple countries, including Italy, Spain, and Japan.
Today, his work focuses on long-term photographic projects exploring memory, place, and the passage of time. Leica Latin America, Leica Mexico, Leica Portugal, Capture One, Document Magazine, and Feature Shoot have featured his photographs.
Through projects, essays, mentorship, and public speaking, he continues to explore the relationship between presence and memory.
